Nicéphore Niépce

Nicéphore Niépce" was born in 1675 in France as a middle class citizen. As a young man, he was interested in the science and technology of photography, and experimented frequently until 1813, when lithography was invented and swept through  France. As a result of this, he created the first permanent photograph of nature sometime around 1826 and died in the year 1833 as the world's first sucessful photographer. Currently, his first photograph is on display in an exhibit in the Ransom Center.
